Cops raced to a busy park in East Kilbride after a man was spotted with a 'gun'.

Police say they received a report of a man in possession of what appeared to be a firearm in Calderglen Country Park on Sunday, May 5.

Officers were called to the area shortly after 5pm, where they then searched the park.

Following that, a 45-year-old man was tracked down and spoken to by cops.

He was then handed a fine.

Meanwhile, police say a BB gun was recovered.

During the incident, residents took to social media to report several police units and a helicopter were spotted in the area.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 5.10pm on Sunday, May 5, we received a report of a man seen in possession of what appeared to be a firearm in Calderglen Country Park, East Kilbride.

"Officers attended and searched the area.

"A 45-year-old man was traced and spoken to.

"He was issued with a fixed penalty notice.

“A BB gun was recovered."
